ACC Cat Adoption Policy

Indoor Only Homes: Animal Care Clinic strives to adopt to indoors-only homes. This is because cats live longer, safer lives when they are kept indoors. There are specific cases when a particular cat may be adopted out to an indoor/outdoor home or into a situation as a barn cat. Typically these cases are due to behavior issues that have been found to have no known physical cause.

Declawing: Animal Care Clinic does not adopt out cats to known situations where the new owner plans to declaw. There are a number of humane alternatives to declawing that the ACC staff would be more than happy to discuss with a potential owner. We do receive cats into the program that have previously been declawed. Potential owners looking for a declawed cat may choose to be put on a waiting list to be informed when these declawed cats are available for adoption.

FIV+ Cats: Animal Care Clinic occasionally receives cats that test positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). We have found that these special cats can live relatively long lives in caring homes as long as they live all indoors in a stress-free environment. For this reason, and because there is a risk of transmitting this disease to other cats, FIV+ cats will only be adopted out to indoors-only home situations where they will be the only cat in the household.

Spaying/Neutering: All intact adult cats are spayed or neutered before placement. Kittens are spayed or neutered once they reach 2.5lbs.
